In the quest to ensure effective and efficient service delivery through staff involvement and accountability of management for a resilient local governance system, the Asante Akim North Municipal Assembly held a staff durbar on Friday, 23rd February 2024 to reflect on the performance and service delivery of staff and management. The durbar was also to help deliberate and address challenges faced by staff in the course of discharging their respective official duties. The meeting sought to resolve the recent act of tardiness exhibited by staff, staff motivation, provision of logistics, and enforcement of the Local Government Service protocols.
An open forum session was held to enable management to have first-hand information on the challenges faced by staff and also provide appropriate solutions to addressing the challenges.
Also, Management awarded Engineer Alex Dwamena from the Municipal Works Department with a tabletop fridge for his hard work, especially, towards development control within the Municipality.
SUBMISSION BY THE MUNICIPAL CHIEF EXECUTIVE.
The Municipal Chief Executive, Hon. Francis Oti Boateng, expressed his gratitude to the staff for their support towards the development of the Municipality. He reiterated the effort of staff towards the success of his administration since 2017, thereby, being awarded as the best District Chief in 2018.
He touched on the tardiness and dressing of officers to work. According to him, he has observed that most officers do not report to work on Mondays and Fridays. The few who report to work either come late or leave the office before the closing time. This act is affecting the productivity of the Assembly and therefore, appropriate sanctions will be applied accordingly to serve as a deterrent to staff henceforth. Members were admonished to act professionally in the discharge of their duties. This includes looking presentable at all times.
He urged members not to jeopardize the cordial relationship, trust, and unity fostered among staff and management all these years which has yielded good results the evidence abounds.
SUBMISSIONS FROM THE OPEN FORUM
After the address by the Municipal Chief Executive, there was an open forum to aid staff relay their challenges to aid staff and management in reaching resolutions through genuine open dialogue. The challenges faced by staff include;
- Lack of Resources/Logistics.
2. Lack of Motivation.
3. Undue delay in payment of Memos.
4. Lack of information.
THE WAY FORWARD
After deliberations from the open forum, staff and management of the Municipal Assembly resolved to;
- Use the Clock-in device as soon as possible.
- Sanction staff who flout the protocols of the Local Government Service.
- Management will ensure that there is a standby generator to address the menace of frequent power outages.
- Management will ensure that funds are readily available to support the activities of all departments/units.
- Management will award deserving staff each year
AWARD OF BEST STAFF FOR THE YEAR, 2023.
As part of measures to motivate staff through acknowledgment of their efforts and contribution towards the development of the Municipality, Management awarded Engineer Alex Dwamena, from the Municipal Works Department, as the best staff for the year, 2023. Engineer Alex Dwamena is also the Head of the Municipal Development Control Team which is tasked to curb the springing up of unauthorized structures within the Municipality.
The Municipal Chief Executive and the Municipal Coordinating Director on behalf of Management presented a Table Top Fridge as a prize to the awardee
CONCLUSION
The credibility of the Asante Akim North Municipal Assembly will be assured with respect to the service rendered to people when the Assembly is served by dedicated and committed members who make it an obligation to execute their respective duties professionally and demand accountability of themselves. Therefore, members are expected to be diligent, accountable, and responsive to the Assembly and adhere to all protocols of the Local Government Service.
