CONFIRMATION OF PRESIDENTIAL NOMINEE FOR MUNICIPAL CHIEF EXECUTIVE – ASANTE AKIM NORTH
In accordance with Article 243(1) of the 1992 Constitution of the Republic of Ghana and Section 20(1) of the Local Governance Act, 2016, Act 936 (as amended), His Excellency the President nominated Madam Sarah Amoakoaa for the position of Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) for the Asante Akim North Municipal Assembly. The nomination was subject to the approval of the Assembly Members.
Pursuant to Order 3(7)(c) and Order 14(1) of the Model Standing Orders for District, Municipal, and Metropolitan Assemblies, a Special General Assembly Meeting was convened on Friday, 16th May 2025, at the Municipal Assembly Hall for the purpose of confirming the President’s nominee.
2.0 ELECTION/CONFIRMATION OF NOMINEE
In line with the provisions of Section 20(1) of the Local Governance Act and Order 14(2) of the Model Standing Orders, the election for the confirmation of the nominee was conducted by Mr. Francis Ohene Komfa, the Municipal Officer of the Electoral Commission, and his team.
The outcome of the election was as follows:
Total votes cast: 31
Total valid votes: 31
Rejected votes: 0
Number of ‘Yes’ votes: 17 (55%)
Number of ‘No’ votes: 14 (45%)
Despite securing a majority of the votes, Madam Sarah Amoakoaa did not attain the required two-thirds majority of members present and voting, as stipulated in Section 20(1) of Act 936 and Order 14(1) of the Model Standing Orders.
In accordance with Order 15(5) of the Model Standing Orders, the meeting was adjourned to allow for a subsequent election to be held within ten (10) days, during which another attempt will be made to confirm the President’s nominee as the Municipal Chief Executive for Asante Akim North.
