As part of the preparation of the 2026–2029 Medium-Term Development Plan (MTDP), the Asante Akim North Municipal Assembly held community engagement sessions from 24th to 25th September 2025 across Juansa North & South (Owarriman), Amantena, and Agogo Hwidiem Area Councils. The meetings aimed to identify and prioritize key development needs through participatory planning in line with NDPC guidelines.
Objectives
The engagements sought to:
• Create awareness of the MTDP process.
• Identify and prioritize development challenges.
• Promote community participation and ownership in local governance.
Methodology
Community meetings, open forums, and pairwise ranking were used to discuss and prioritize needs. Participants included Assembly Members, Unit Committees, Traditional Authorities, Women and Youth Groups, Religious bodies, and Persons with Disabilities (PWDs).
Summary of Issues Identified
Across the three Area Councils, common challenges included:
• Education: Inadequate classrooms, teachers’ quarters, and libraries.
• Health: Lack of CHPS compounds and nurses’ quarters.
• Water & Sanitation: Poor waste disposal, inadequate toilet facilities, and limited potable water supply.
• Roads/Transport: Poor road networks needing rehabilitation.
• Security: Inadequate police accommodation.
• Economy & Infrastructure: Absence of factories, poor market infrastructure, and unreliable electricity supply.
Key Outcomes
• High community participation and inclusiveness.
• Consensus on priority needs.
• Strengthened collaboration between the Assembly and communities.
• Community readiness to support implementation.
